Meet a Member of the Sakamana Team

I am so proud to introduce to you a new member of the Sakamana team! This is Bwalya. Bwalya has been working for Sakamana since January after she graduated from Secondary School.

With the growth of Sakamana, it was important to have a dedicated team member that could be relied on to do the counting, sorting, and organizing of the peanuts, boil the eggs, and keep the milk containers clean. There is plenty of work that goes on behind-the-scenes that keeps Sakamana ready and prepared to serve the students Monday to Friday.

It has been an absolute delight to watch Bwalya step into her role with great enthusiasm, confidence, and dependability.

Another crucial task that Bwalya has been instrumental in helping me with is the Sakamana Uniform Project. Bwalya rides with me to collect the students and facilitates the purchases of the correct size and colors of their uniforms. Often, there is a language barrier with the students. Because Bwalya works so closely with me on this project, getting the students new uniforms has been a much easier task because she can communicate accurately with each student. This past week, we had to source a different type of school uniform than we had previously purchased. Bwalya quickly knew where to source the uniforms we needed. It was such a reminder to me how invaluable Bwalya is to Sakamana.

Sakamana Before-School Nutrition Program Team Member Central Province, Zambia

Bwalya was also a student in the Sakamana Before-School Nutrition Program from the beginning! What a blessing it has been to me to watch Bwalya finish Secondary School and become a Team Member of Sakamana.

Thank you to each of our partners who make the Sakamana Before-School Nutrition Program a reality here in the K’angomba area of Kabwe. You are truly making a difference in the lives of the young people in our community!

Warmest regards to each reader and partner,

Rebecca Staal
